Therefore, we thought we’d tell you a little about our favorite lakes and help you find the perfect Texas Lake Home.
North Texas Lake Homes for Sale
Cedar Creek Lake – If you live in the Dallas area, Cedar Creek Lake is a great option for your Texas lake home since it is only a short, 1 hour drive. With over 300 miles of shoreline there are plenty of waterfront homes range from $100k to over $1m. One huge advantage with Cedar Creek Lake is that it’s one of the few lakes where you own the waterfront and it is relatively easy to obtain a permit for the boat dock. With a half-dozen small towns on the shores of Cedar Creek Lake, there are plenty of restaurants, movie theaters, family fun centers, events, festivals, etc… We suggest you consider renting a home for a few weekends to get familiar with the lake find your favorite neighborhoods.
Lake Texoma – Just 90 minutes north of the Dallas Fort Worth metroplex is one of the largest inland lakes in the US, Lake Texoma with tens-of-thousands of acres available as public parks, wildlife refuges and campgrounds. Wildlife is abundant and there are plenty of opportunities for outdoor activities such as hiking and exploring. With roughly a dozen great marinas, water sports, sailing and striper fishing are popular. You’ll find homes from $100k to over $1m but waterfront homes are generally $250k or more. Since the USACE owns the waterfront property, docks and boathouse ownership is rare. The environment is a bit more “rural” and homes are generally a bit more secluded than other lakes due to the heavy forestation of the area just around the lake.
Possum Kindgom Lake – clearly one of the most scenic lakes in north Texas, Possum Kingdom Lake is located roughly 2 hours west of Fort Worth. Known for its Texas Hill Country feel and towering Hells Gate 200′ cliffs, Possum Kingdom is a popular destination for high-end Texas lake homes. Ranging from $250k to over $1 million, waterfront homes are scarce. Boat docks are rare and coveted but many of the homes have simply amazing views of the lake. As deep, clear lake, PK is one of the most popular destinations for scuba diving but all water sports are common. Due to home owner association restrictions, upscale vacation rentals are rare but there are some available here.
Lake Fork – If fishing is your sport then there is nowhere better for your Texas lake home than Lake Fork. Roughly 90 minutes east of Dallas, Lake Fork is known as one of the top largemouth bass fishing spots in the country. When the lake was filled the trees were left so its great for fishing but not ideal for other water sports. Since it is primarily a fishing lake, there are some great opportunities to own great waterfront homes on Lake Fork from $100k.
East Texas Lake Homes for Sale
Lake Palestine – If you prefer the thick piney woods of east Texas then Lake Palestine is a great option. Just 30 minutes south of Tyler there are plenty of amenities nearby but you’ll feel as if you are in another world. Lakefront homes start at a reasonable $150k. Consider taking a trip out to Lake Palestine for a weekend and see what all it has to offer.
Lake Sam Rayburn – When you really want to escape the daily grind then Sam Rayburn is a great East Texas lake. Located two hours north east of Houston and 3.4 hours south east of Dallas, Sam Rayburn is an amazing getaway deep in the piney woods. You won’t find any rush hour traffic here, unless you count the bass boats returning after a hard day of fishing.
